Violence in Video Games

As more and more video games come into the limelight, more and more people are questioning the violent nature of some of these games. Violent video games are dangerous because they normalize abusive behavior mainly, including the violent act of killing others like other soldiers or an opposing man/woman. Some video games simulate military battles or drug dealers being chased by cops, in which usually some character will be murdered in the end. These teen and kid amusements become become dangerous as they treat violence as a form of entertainment. Some of the most popular ones are Call of Duty, ManHunt and ManHunt 2, Grand Theft Auto, Narc, and quite a few more which happen to be as equally inappropriate and violent. While these games are seen as prized possessions and a luxury item to some, it can be viewed as an influence to mass violence for others. With mass shootings especially in schools in the U.S. on the rise, it makes some believe that it is due to the output of more and more violent video games coming out every year. The Parkland shooting last year in Florida shocked thousands and unfortunately killed and wounded dozens, which comes to why the shooter did what he did. The shooter inspired by hateful beliefs also became inspired by violent video games he would often play, especially those with characters waving guns around as if it's normal.

  1. I agree with your thought about the video games being pretty violent. I think that this can cause problems for the consumers of these products in the future if production of these games continue. This is because it will spread violence and encourage it to get what you want.

  2. Hi, it's Jack Galvez because his blog comments don't work. "I completely agree with blog in all aspects, it is crazy how violent and realistic some of these games are that are coming out seemingly every month. It is really important for researchers to look into them since they could have serious implications on a teen's mind. It's crazy to think how these aren't regulated as much as they should be because if they were, the wrong age group wouldn't get as exposed to it."
