Reflection

From this experience I learned how manipulative the media is towards teens and gullible people. Yet, as everyone is a little bit gullible, everyone is taken advantage of by the media in some way. I learned that from the day I opened my eyes as a newborn, I have been a target for advertisers. This awareness has affected my media consumption habits, not by the amount of time I spend interacting with the media, but rather by not being drawn in by ads. Now, when an ad catches my eye, I am more aware of the advertiser's tactics of persuasion and how they are trying to get me to want to buy a product or service. For example, one day, as I was scrolling through Instagram, I came across an ad for eco-friendly deodorant. I thought how genius it was to advocate for something eco-friendly, as the world is being destroyed by climate change. I realized how whatever is going on in the world is a perfect opportunity for advertisers to sell something that solves that problem. I realized how ridicu

Violence in Video Games

Image
As more and more video games come into the limelight, more and more people are questioning the violent nature of some of these games. Violent video games are dangerous because they normalize abusive behavior mainly, including the violent act of killing others like other soldiers or an opposing man/woman. Some video games simulate military battles or drug dealers being chased by cops, in which usually some character will be murdered in the end. These teen and kid amusements become become dangerous as they treat violence as a form of entertainment. Some of the most popular ones are Call of Duty, ManHunt and ManHunt 2, Grand Theft Auto, Narc, and quite a few more which happen to be as equally inappropriate and violent. While these games are seen as prized possessions and a luxury item to some, it can be viewed as an influence to mass violence for others. With mass shootings especially in schools in the U.S. on the rise, it makes some believe that it is due to the output of more and more v

My takeaway from Miss Representation...

Image
My eyes have became more open to how disturbingly the media decides to portray women, especially younger girls. As someone who is pretty young herself, it made my whole body cringe and feel a bit wheezy knowing girls a few years younger than me are being sexualized in a manner almost as inappropriate as possibly an adult film star. They are put out into the dominating world as these sex appeal teens that may not have even hit puberty yet, but are been seen as a character of just boobs and butts. Companies with major powers in the media industry world set the bar as to what is appropriate. They decide which body parts to focus on in a woman and by give the impression that a woman's only asset is her body. This objectification of women in the media reveals how men are mostly in positions of power in the media industry. If more women were in positions of power, there would be more people at the top who could question this portrayal of women. Unfortunately no one feels the need to inte

The infamous Mook's of youtube

Image
Mook= someone portraying an obnoxious and wild lifestyle, typically an influence to young males. Sounds like a 'cool' person right? Well maybe to some but to others this type of character seems miserable to be around. Some of the most infamous Mook's of the youtube scene are the infamous Logan and Jake Paul brothers that do outrageous stunts and pranks on their Youtube channels. As well as David Dobrik and the whole 'vlog squad' as a whole who tend to act as one big mook squad as they all portray the same personality. Typically popular among a younger audience of elementary school kids to middle school pre-teens, they give off a wanna-be personality of not giving a care in the world and treating everyday practically as if it's their last. For those much older than them like those  above these mid 20 year olds, they are probably seen as tormenting brats, trotting around the world like some big douche-bag making everybody else's lives harder. On the other ha

Is IGOR really that good of an album?

Image
Two days ago Tyler, The Creator released a new album named "IGOR", which sent all ages into a frenzy over listening to his new songs. Some called the songs repetitive, similar sounding or simply boring while others view it as beautifully written music. I found everyone calling these songs amazing a little over dramatic, because as I do believe the songs are well written I only found about two amazing, the rest seemed poorly executed. On all the social media apps I have, not one didn't mention the new album or the artist himself within the first hour of its release, which doesn't come as a surprise. Mainly because everyone in todays social trends have felt the need to be different from the rest or have this aesthetic appeal to their look, and I will admit I have tried some of these trends but music has to be one of the biggest influence to them. Tyler, The Creators music definitely has a different twist on the lyrics and what the song is about, a perfect symbol of

How did Georgia get away with the Heart Beat bill?????

Image
As many of you have probably heard from recent articles or news attention, Georgia has passed a bill that makes it so women are banned to receive abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy. Also to note that Gov. Brian Kemp is the one who had signed the bill. The bill putting restrictions on a woman's body. A man, who does not have a Uterus mind you, has signed a bill controlling women. ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!!!!! I am so infuriated and upset about this I almost can't believe it. I don't understand how women aren't the ones making laws towards a woman's body. Instead some ignorant old white man has decided to take matters into his own hands and set up a bill preventing someone, no matter their circumstance, to get an abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy, which is extremely unfortunate as some women have irregular menstrual cycles so being two weeks late can be common. So once you realize that maybe you aren't just late on your period but that you might also be pregnant and

Merchants of Cool

Image
Merchants of Cool     Our addiction to brands and trendy genres, especially for teens, has been growing and growing ever since we were introduced to those trying to market out their product. Which made a path for companies to use special types of lure-traps for teens to fall for their product. Every teen at some point wants to be the most popular or the one with the most attention from others, which can be achieved if you have the newest 'it' product. Whether that be clothes, electronics, cars, travel, beverages, and even food. The idea of having a name brand item proves to some, especially those who can't afford it, is meant to show off to others by being given this elite club status. Although that is seen as somewhat rude to intentionally put others down to bring yourself up is not uncommon in teens. As mostly everyone in their teen years tries to prove that they are the biggest and greatest out there. which involves being the one
